Trauma Education is co-ordinated by a sub-group under the leadership of Marianne Moutray. Marianne was Director of Education at the School of Nursing and Midwifery Queens University, Belfast.
The team is enhanced by a network of experienced practitioners and facilitators who deliver programmes within their field of expertise, for example, ‘the impact of trauma on the body’, ‘intergenerational trauma’, ‘trauma and addiction’ amongst others.
WAVE Trauma Education have developed a variety of accredited training courses in the field of trauma, loss and growth. Much of the training has been influenced by over 29 years of service to those who have been bereaved, traumatised and/or injured through The Troubles in Northern Ireland and along the border counties. Whilst courses are made available to all on a ‘first come first serve’ basis, essentially they have greater appeal to first responders working in the community, and to agencies impacted by the legacy of conflict in Northern Ireland and beyond.
In more recent years the range of courses on offer has been widened to include, ‘compassion fatigue’, ‘vicarious trauma’ and ‘trauma and attachment difficulties’. WAVE Trauma Education have created a learning pathway that is unique on the island of Ireland.
Our training pathway consists of five progressive strands
Community Education Open Learning, Queen’s University Belfast accredited courses.
Strand One consists of community orientated trauma focused courses which enable society within Northern Ireland to deal with the legacy of a violent past. The strand works from local to international research which is important in challenging insular views and acknowledging the wider world that we live in.
