International Women’s Day

10th March 2020

There was such love & respect on #InternationalWomenDay2020 at WAVE On Sunday 8th March 2020. We remembered 10 amazing women who along with a number of others, contributed so much in shaping WAVE into what it is today –

Maura McDaid, Ginnie Gibson, Tillie Davidson, Kathleen Armstrong, Mary Evans, Mary Treanor, Kathy O’Hare, Agnes McConville, Jean Orr and Theresa Rooney.

Stunning roses carefully selected were planted to remember each of the women and small ceramic tiles share a little of who they were. There was beautiful music by the very talented Caroline Saunderson and Naomi Hill and as ever fabulous catering led by Liam and the team. Prof Monica McWilliams delivered a beautiful tribute to all of the women. She had met each of them during her time with WAVE. So this was deeply special for the families gathered.

We were delighted to welcome people from near and far including London, Manchester, Liverpool & Galway.

In the middle of the reflective area a little verse has been mounted it reads; Here’s to strong women May we know them May we be them May we raise them Anon

It was such a poignant day and will be the first among many, when we remember those who have worked so hard to help others along the way.
