COVID-19 has served to highlight, not only the many and varied morally and ethically difficult decisions frontline workers have to make, but more importantly, the traumatic impact of these decisions on those who make them.
With a focus on ‘doing more with less’ many healthcare, mental health, social and support workers have faced difficult decisions as to who gets what care, under extremely challenging situations.
This workshop introduces the concept of moral injury, originally developed from work with combat veterans, that recognises the potential complex psychological and emotional outcomes of making these decisions and how we can protect ourselves moving forward.
