Damien Brown

Damian’s father, Sean Brown, was abducted by the LVF from outside Bellaghy’s Wolfe Tone GAA club on 12 May 1997.

He was the chairman of the club and had stayed after a meeting to lock up. The killers shot and injured him before driving him away in the boot of his own car. His body was found beside his burning car near the neighbouring village of Randalstown. Among those who paid tribute to Mr Brown was Seamus Heaney, who was from the area, and who described him as “a man of integrity and good will.” The murder was carried out during a tense period leading up to what is known as “the marching season” and was one of a number carried out by the LVF which claimed to support the Orange Order in its disputes with nationalist residents groups.
