Ginnie Gibson’s husband John was shot dead by the IRA on 21st October 1993, close to his home in Glengormley, just north of Belfast.
His son, Peter, was in his final year at the University of Ulster. John was a director of Henry Brothers builders, which had contracts with the security forces and was therefore considered a legitimate target by the IRA. John’s son, Peter, was in his final year at the University of Ulster, and Ginnie had just taken early retirement from her career as a PE teacher.
