Kate Ewart Biggs

Kate’s father, Christopher Ewart Biggs, who was 54, was murdered by the IRA on the 21st of July 1976, when his car was ambushed close to his official residence as the British Ambassador to Ireland, in South County Dublin. Kate was 8 years old.  She had 2 siblings. The family had just moved to Dublin and Christopher was just 2 weeks into his post.  The car in which he was travelling was blown up by a bomb.  Civil servant Judith Cook was also killed.  The ambassador had declared himself opposed to violence.  Kate’s mother, Jane, established a prize in her late husband’s memory.
